Cafe Hubbard, Texas

This is a photo of my great grandmother Willie Mae Odom and her husband Monk Odom's cafe in what was a little but thriving downtown Hubbard, Texas in the 1950's and 60's. She was an incredible cook and passed that skill on to my grandmother and her five daughters (one of whom is sitting at the counter in this photo).  I am certain there are old timers who still remember her and Monk, they had oversized personalities.  Beautiful people, full of life and energy.  As a kid, Monk used to tell all of us kids that at night, Great Nanny would fly around the house on a broomstick.  He also used to dip toothpicks in tabasco and hand them out, holding back a laugh.  A tragic tornado hit Hubbard in 1973 and took out this building I think.
