KMB
I am attaching a picture of my grandmother, Claudie Woellert, when she was a small girl. She was born in Rosanky, TX in 1909 and due to some childhood trauma developed a terrible stutter that she lived with her entire life. She only spoke German until she was 8 years old. She was the daughter of Henry Joe and Emma Woellert (also pictured). Henry Joe and Emma were from the High Hill community and were married in the beautiful Catholic Church in High Hill in 1901. Henry Joe was an itinerant farmer all his life, so the family moved around a lot. Claudie, my grandmother, was a feisty woman, who lived to be 88. She spoke with a clipped German accent all her life, and never hesitated to tell you what she thought, and never sugar-coated anything. She raised 5 sons and 2 daughters, of which only one son is still living.
Traces
Thank you so much, KMB. This is exactly what I'm looking for: it's got the names, the dates, everything. And poor Claudia, to have been so traumatized. Sounds like she was a spirited Texas lady, though.
