More beautiful Texas. Traces of Texas reader Trey Armstrong lives out in West Texas and has several pairs of killdeer hanging out in the barnyard at his house, which is where he took this great photo of killdeer eggs. Killdeer nest on the ground, of course, which makes their eggs vulnerable to all sorts of assorted hazards.  Says Trey: "I guess I got too close to one of the nests this evening, and she really put on a show with the “wounded wing” and squawking trying to lure me away. I spied the little nest she had fashioned for herself in the caliche rocks and pebbles." Having had this same experience with Killdeer, I was happy to see this.

Thank you, Trey. Texas nature is awesome!
