Girl Ironing, 1940

A young barefoot girl irons the old fashioned way in a migrant labor camp in Harlingen, Texas 1940.   There's an outside possibility that she's still alive, I reckon.  I sometimes hear folks who lived through the Great Depression say that they were happy because they didn't realize they were poor.  My father is a child of the depression and he said "don't believe it. We knew we were poor."

Taken by Russell Lee.
