Traces of Texas reader Johnnie Tatom sent in this glorious photo of her uncle Ben Cobb and his friend Tommy Haas "playing dolls" with her at the Cobb Ranch in Kimble County back in 1938. That's a young Johnnie obviously. Tommy was subsequently killed in World War II. Isn't it fantastic that what looks to be an innocent snapshot memento can come with such a rich backstory? Like, if you or me found this snapshot on the ground we might look at it but would have no idea that it shows Tommy Haas before he went off to war. But we have Johnnie here to tell us, for which I am thankful.

Thank you, Johnnie. RIP Tommy Haas!
