1930's homemade school bus in San Juan, Texas.

Recommended Posts

My mother's family moved to San Juan, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley in 1927. There were no school buses at that time, so my Grandfather Elmer Scott, along with their neighbor Mr. DeShazo fashioned together a school bus built on a truck frame. For several years my Grandmother Bessie Scott drove my Mother, her 3 siblings, plus many of the neighborhood children to school. When the oldest Scott teenager (Vernon Scott) learned to drive he took over the duties.
