Traces
Traces of Texas reader Ed Driskill kindly sent in this photo of the Randolph, Texas AF&AM (Ancient Free and Accepted Masons) Lodge No. 229. Ed believes it to have been made in the 1860's. Randolph was located in Houston County, a few miles east of Crockett. It once competed with Crockett to be county seat of Houston County, but later withered away. Ed's GG-Grandfather, L.W. Driskill, was a member of this lodge from 1859-1870. He held the posts of Junior Warden and Senior Warden, according to newspaper posts and the records of the Grand Lodge of Texas, and was a member of 2 other local Lodges before his death in 1888. Ed's not certain but believes (based on some family resemblance) that L.W. Driskill is on the front row, second from left (with the sword). I love the clarity of this image, especially considering its age. Thank you, Ed. Neat photo!
